Blocking pop-ups in Mac Safari browser?

I have a Mac which runs with Snow Leopard OS and I use the Safari browser for internet browsing and lately there are lot of pop-ups coming automatically even after block pop-up is selected. What is the issue? Why this is happening? Can you please give me the information to overcome this problem?

Hello Dear Guest, Follow these steps to block pop ups in Safari.

Open up Safari, Go to Preferences.
Under General Preferences go to Security Tab.
In the Web Content section there is a option Block Pop Up Windows. Check it ON to activate Pop Up Blocker.
    Good Luck.
