My mac machine won't start, whenever I try to turn it on it starts normally but just before getting home screen it is showing a lengthy description with starting Error Code: 17. Then it stops there and never returns the home screen. What should I do now in order to fix this error?

Go through the below steps carefully
You just close the Mac ... and try Restarting
For that follow the restarting procedure
Generally installer provide a RESTART button
Or else go to the Apple menu .. click on the RESTART button after that
Press Control - Eject and choose the Restart from there
Or else you can press the Power button choose Restart option
System Start up key commands ..
C --- Boot from CD or DVD
T --- Target Disk mode
R --- Forces Some powerbooks to reset the Screen
X --- Boot to OS X on systems with dual boot
...etc.,
