Fix for DiskOs2 i/o error in Mac Mountain Lion?

Everything was working in my Mac after the Mountain Lion update and now when I try to startup it fails with the error as DiskOs2 i/o error. Why this comes up? What should be done to fix this? I really need to get the data backed up which is more important.

    Hi.............,

    Log into your mac account.
    Now select mac update .
Update to latest version if available.
Make sure that you have high speed net.
Have a antivirus in device to save it from virus attack.
