How to change the Encryption method in OSX?

While using OSX, I have seen the encryption method. As far as my knowledge about it is concerned, I think that it uses SHA1 or MD5 encryption which makes use of Specified SALT to encrypt the data which is less secure. I want to make it more secure. This can only happen if in same method SALT is produced by generating randomly. Is there any method to do the same? If yes then how?
