    Steps to exclude the Mail from Time Machine backup in Mac?

    My Mac runs with the Snow Leopard in my Mac and now I just wanted to know what settings need to be changed for just exclude the Mail to be backed up in the Time Machine. Is that possible to do? What should be done for that? Kindly give me the instructions which I need to follow for the same? Thanks.

    Yes it is possible to exclude only the mails from your Time Machine backup. All the mails gets stored in the ~/Library/Mail folder in your Mac which need to be excluded in your Time Machine backup. Just follow the steps which are given below,

    STEP 1: Open the System Preferences window from the Apple menu in the desktop.

    STEP 2: Navigate to Time Machine -> Options.

    STEP 3: Now Add ~/Library/Mail in the excluded items -> Commit the changes.

    STEP 4: Start the Time Machine backup now and you can see that the Mails will not be backed up anymore.

    :: Once the system preference is open then you have to select the “Time Machine” option.

    :: Now under it, choose the “option”.

    :: Then here you choose the and add the ~/Library/Mail in the excluded items OK.

    :: After that you can change under it.

    :: Then allow for backup process using the Time machine.

    Hi hello ..

    The steps to exclude the mail from Time Machine Backup in Mac are as follows :

    Go to Apple Menu

    and Navigate to the System preference window

    followed by Time machine there after Options

    now add /Library Mail in the excluded items

    and save the changes


    now start the time machine backup .

    You can exclude the mail from time machine backup in mac system by following the below instructions.

    +++ Steps to follow to exclude the mail from time machine backup :

    1. Tap the mac system home screen by turn on it.

    2. Now tap the system preferences option from mac main menu.

    3. In this system preferences find and tap the time machine backup.

    4. Now among the backup files select all file expect mail which you want to exclude.

    5. After done this start the backup by pressing the backup option.

    6. After pressing this you files is backuped except mail.
