Unable to change background colours in iMac G7.1 after Mac OS X 10.7.2 upgrade

I am unable to change the background colour in my iMac G7.1. On clicking on the setting options, the cursor moves but never applies the change. Why is it so happening? Is it some manufacturing defect? Please suggest a solution.
