Where is the library folder which use to be in the user folder for Mac with Mountain Lion OSX?

I am not able to see the library folder which you use to be in the user folder in Mac previous OS. Is it that they have removed it from Mountain Lion? or it is hidden or so? Can you please tell me how to access the library to change some settings? Where to see for it?

Re: Where is the library folder which use to be in the user folder for Mac with Mountain Lion OSX?

No, it’s not that they have removed the library folder completely but they have done some changes in Mountain Lion OSX by hiding the library folder from the User folder. Actually by default there are three library folders comes with the Mac OS which are located in root, inside System and the other in the User home folder. So it’s is better not to touch the former two directories i.e the root and System folder libraries as it deals with the core settings and according to your need you are looking for the library folder which is in user folder which can be accessible by following two different methods, just skim through the below steps to attain it,

STEP 1: You can see the menu option as “Go” in the Finder. Just hold down the Option key and select the Go Menu.
STEP 2: There will be Library option shown right in the middle of the drop-down list select it to open the library folder which was earlier in the user folder.
STEP 3: You can also open it by following one more way, while in the Finder just press the Command-Shift-G shortcut.
STEP 4: This will open up the Go to Folder dialog, just give in the path as “~/Library” and press Go which will open up the Library folder. Note: “~” - is the shortcut to your home folder.
STEP 5: You can also do the same from terminal, just execute the command cd ~/Library to open it.

The reason for hiding the Library folder from the main users folder in Mountain Lion is because to avoid the mistake of deleting the folder from the place which will end up in great confusion with all the apps which is running in background for the particular user. So it’s always better to hide things which are critical for a normal user.

If you are still facing some issues in the above steps and viewing the Libraries in Mountain Lion then drop in your query here to get the suggestions and solution for your problem.

The user's Library folder is hidden in Mountain Lion (and Lion). To go there, hold down the option key while selecting Library from the Go menu in the Finder.

    Hello friend,

I have the solution for your problem it is:-

The Library folder which use to be in the user folder for Mac will be always hidden.

To make it visible you just do as i say........

    Method-1.

Firstly try to add the sudo to command prompt.

Which helps you to make library visible.

    The sudo contains:-chflags nohidden~/Library.

    Method-2.

Firstly click on the 'Go Menu' in the finder.

    Then select the 'Library' option.

When it opens drag the library folder to Finder's sidebar.

So that you can see it permanently.

    All the best.....

    * You could not see the library folder which you use to see in the user folder in the Mac os previous....!

    * It is not that they have removed it... but they kept it hiding in the default settings in mac running on Lion...!

    * To make the library folder in user folder to be visible just follow the steps given below..

    * Step 1: Open the Finder

    * Step 2: You have to press and hold on the Option key while you click the Go menu.....!!

    * Step 3: The library folder displays

    * Step 4: Continue holding the option key and click library to display the contents of the library folder...!

    * Thus you can find the library folder in your Mac......!!

    dear user,
I think they have made some changes in mountain lion os x because of which the library file is hidden from the user folder. The reason for hiding the Library folder from the main users folder in Mountain Lion is because to avoid the mistake of deleting the folder from the place. The simplest thing you could do is go to the toolbar on os screen than simply click on library folder which you want to see.

    thank you.
